Hudson County After Dark: October Edition

October nights in Hudson County are packed with reasons to stay out after sunset.

From carnival lights and Oktoberfest celebrations to Halloween festivals, cocktails, live music, and community events, there is plenty happening beyond the usual dinner reservation. Here are some of the best ways to experience Hudson County after dark this October.

Cocktails With a View | Hudson County Waterfront

October is also the perfect month to rediscover Hudson County’s waterfront after dark.

From Weehawken and West New York down through Hoboken and Jersey City, the waterfront offers countless places to pair cocktails or dinner with Manhattan views.

Pick a new restaurant, grab a seasonal cocktail, and take a walk along the Hudson afterward. Cooler weather, earlier sunsets, and the illuminated skyline make October an especially good time to enjoy the Gold Coast at night.

Hudson County Fair | North Bergen

October 3–12 | James J. Braddock North Hudson County Park

Start the month under the lights at the Hudson County Fair. Returning to James J. Braddock Park, the fair brings carnival rides, games, food vendors, and classic fair attractions to North Bergen for ten days. It is an easy October night out for families, friends, or anyone looking for a little fall nostalgia.

Oktoberfest Weekends | Hoboken

Weekends through October 17 | The Hoboken Biergarten

Fall nights in Hoboken call for Oktoberfest. The Hoboken Biergarten is celebrated throughout the first half of October with live entertainment, stein-holding competitions, seasonal food, keg-tapping ceremonies, and plenty of beer.

Come for dinner, stay for the festivities, and make a night of it.

JCAST After Dark | Jersey City

October 1–4 | Throughout Jersey City

The Jersey City Art & Studio Tour turns galleries, studios, and unexpected spaces across the city into an evening of art and culture.

Select programming continues until 9 PM, making JCAST a great alternative to the typical night out. Explore local artists, installations, performances, and exhibitions before heading downtown for dinner or drinks.

An Evening on the Weehawken Waterfront | Weehawken

Not every October night needs an event on the calendar.

Take advantage of the crisp weather with an evening along the Weehawken waterfront. Start with a walk along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, take in the Manhattan skyline after sunset, and turn it into dinner or drinks nearby.

Sometimes the best fall plans are the simplest.

Halloween Spooktacular | Secaucus

October 27 | 4 PM, 5 PM & 6 PM | Secaucus Public Library

For families, Secaucus is getting into the Halloween spirit with an evening Spooktacular.

Kids ages four and up can dress in costume, trick-or-treat, play games, take Halloween photos, and make a spooky craft. Three sessions are available throughout the late afternoon and early evening, although advance registration is required.

Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat | West New York

October 30 | Starting at 4:30 PM | Town Hall to Miller Park

West New York kicks off Halloween weekend with its annual Fall Festival, Ragamuffin Parade, and Trunk or Treat.

The costume lineup begins at Town Hall before making its way to Miller Park, where Trunk or Treat begins at 5 PM. Expect candy, music, bouncy houses, costumes, and plenty of Halloween energy as the evening gets underway.

Children’s Halloween Festival | Union City

October 31 | 5–7 PM | 15th Street

Union City keeps Halloween going after sunset with its Children’s Halloween Festival.

Families can head to 15th Street between Bergenline and New York Avenue for free rides, candy, and Halloween activities. Admission is free, making it an easy addition to Halloween night before or after trick-or-treating.

Dandiya Dhamaka | Secaucus

October 24 | 7:30 PM | Secaucus Recreation Center

For something completely different from the Halloween circuit, spend an October Saturday night at Dandiya Dhamaka.

The evening celebration at the Secaucus Recreation Center brings music and dancing to town beginning at 7:30 PM.

Halloween Night Across Hudson County

October 31 | Countywide

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so expect plenty happening throughout Hudson County.

In addition to Union City’s evening festival, Hoboken’s annual Ragamuffin Parade brings costumes to Washington Street, while bars and restaurants throughout Hoboken and Jersey City are expected to host Halloween celebrations of their own.

Whether your ideal Halloween involves costumes and candy with the kids or cocktails and a late night out, there is no shortage of ways to celebrate close to home.
