My Favorite Bike Routes in Hudson County (and Why I Track Every Ride on Strava)

Whether I’m getting in an early morning workout, enjoying a weekend ride, or simply taking advantage of a beautiful day, biking has become one of my favorite ways to experience Hudson County. Every ride offers something different, whether it’s incredible waterfront views, quiet neighborhood streets, or discovering a new local spot along the way.

One app that’s become part of every ride is Strava. I use it to track my distance, pace, elevation, and favorite routes, and it’s a fun way to see your progress over time while exploring new places.

If you’re looking to get out on two wheels, here are a few of my favorite rides.

Weehawken Waterfront Ride

Perfect for: Scenic rides, beginners, and sunrise or sunset views

One of my favorite local rides starts in Weehakwen, goes up through Union City, and goes back down through the Weehawken waterfront. The combination of river views, the Manhattan skyline, and the peaceful atmosphere makes this one of the most enjoyable places to bike in Hudson County.

I love riding along Boulevard East before making my way toward Port Imperial and the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. There are plenty of places to stop for photos, grab a coffee, or simply enjoy the view.

One of my recent Strava routes:

  • 🚴 Distance: 1.47 miles
  • ⏱️ Time: 29 minutes
  • 👣 Great for a casual ride or walk while taking in the skyline

The Hudson River Waterfront Walkway

Stretching through several Hudson County communities, the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway is easily one of the best places to ride.

The mostly flat terrain makes it great for riders of all experience levels, and the scenery never gets old. Along the way you’ll pass parks, marinas, restaurants, cafés, and some of the best skyline views anywhere in New Jersey.

It’s also easy to customize your ride depending on how much time you have.

Bike Through Hoboken

Hoboken is one of the most bike-friendly communities in Hudson County.

Start along Sinatra Drive, ride past Pier A Park, Pier C Park, Maxwell Place Park, and continue through the city’s beautiful brownstone-lined streets. If you need a break, stop at one of the many coffee shops or grab lunch along Washington Street before continuing your ride.

It’s a great mix of waterfront scenery and neighborhood charm.

In my case, I biked through Weehawken to Hoboken, then stopped at Viv & Jules for a delicious Dinner!

Explore Liberty State Park

If you’re looking for a longer ride, Liberty State Park is worth the trip.

Wide paved paths, views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Lower Manhattan make this one of New Jersey’s premier cycling destinations. The park offers plenty of room for both recreational riders and those looking to get in a longer workout.

Ride Through Jersey City

Jersey City offers a completely different biking experience.

Ride through Downtown, explore the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza, cruise along the waterfront, or head toward Liberty State Park. With protected bike lanes continuing to expand, it’s becoming easier than ever to explore the city on two wheels.

There are plenty of opportunities to stop for coffee, lunch, or simply enjoy the local atmosphere.

Why I Love Using Strava

One of the things I enjoy most about biking is tracking my progress.

Strava allows me to record every ride, monitor my distance and pace, discover new routes, and look back at places I’ve explored over the years. It’s also a great way to stay motivated and challenge yourself to ride a little farther each week.

Whether you’re a casual rider or someone who bikes every weekend, it’s become one of my favorite tools.

Fitness Beyond Hudson County

One of the things I love most about Strava is that it isn’t just for biking. Whether I’m cycling at home or exploring a new destination on foot, it’s a great way to remember the places I’ve been and the routes I’ve taken.

During a recent trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia, I tracked a morning walk along the Adriatic coastline. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip, with incredible waterfront views, historic streets, and a reminder that sometimes the best way to experience a new place is simply by slowing down and exploring on foot.

Strava Route

  • 🚶 Distance: 1.73 miles
  • ⏱️ Time: 31 minutes
  • 🌊 Morning walk along the Adriatic coastline

See You on the Trail

Whether you’re riding along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, cruising through Hoboken, exploring Liberty State Park, or discovering a new route of your own, biking is one of the best ways to experience Hudson County.

If you see me out on the trails, don’t forget to say hello. And if you’re on Strava, I’d love to know your favorite local route. There are always new places to explore, and that’s part of what makes living in Hudson County so special.
