There is something about a fall Sunday in Jersey City Heights that makes you want to slow down.
Coffee in hand, the Manhattan skyline in the distance, the farmers market buzzing, and neighborhood favorites within walking distance. If you are looking for an easy way to spend a crisp fall Sunday without leaving the Heights, consider this your itinerary.
9:30 AM: Start With Coffee or Matcha
Every good Sunday starts with a drink in hand, and the Heights gives you two great options.
For matcha, stop by Jane’s Matcha for high-quality Japanese matcha, seasonal drinks, and pastries.
More of a coffee person? Head to lil’ dove cafe on Palisade Avenue for an espresso drink, breakfast sandwich, or something sweet. If it’s not too chilly, sit on their back patio area for a few. Let’s be real, Lil dove cafe has a great maple berry matcha too. And follow their social media for popup events!
Grab it to go because the next stop is just as much about the setting as it is the shopping.
10:30 AM: Browse the Riverview Farmers Market
Make your way to Riverview-Fisk Park for the Riverview Farmers Market.
Spend the morning browsing local produce, baked goods, flowers, prepared foods, and neighborhood vendors. The market has become a Sunday staple in the Heights and is especially nice once the fall weather arrives. Follow their instagram for fall market popups!
Pick up something for the week, grab a snack for later, and take your time wandering.
11:30 AM: Stay for the View
Don’t leave the park just yet.
Find a bench or a spot on the grass overlooking the Manhattan skyline and stay awhile. Read, people-watch, catch up with a friend, or simply enjoy the view.
With the leaves changing and Manhattan in the distance, Riverview-Fisk Park is one of those places that reminds you just how special the Heights can feel in the fall.
12:30 PM: Lunch at Bread & Salt
Next, walk down Palisade Avenue for lunch at Bread and Salt.
The neighborhood Italian bakery and pizzeria is known for its bread, focaccia, pizza, sandwiches, and baked goods. Grab a slice or sandwich, and maybe something sweet for later.
It is casual, local, and exactly what a Sunday lunch should be.
1:30 PM: Stop by Meow Mini Mart
After lunch, make a quick detour to Meow Mini Mart.
This shop is packed with cat-inspired art, prints, accessories, gifts, and quirky finds from independent artists. It is colorful, unexpected, and very cute. And of course, toys, accessories, food, and needed supplies for your kitties!
Even if you aren’t looking for anything in particular, it is worth popping in just to browse. Chances are, you’ll leave with something you didn’t know you needed. The perfect place for a cat-lover.
2:00 PM: Wander the Heights
Leave a little room in the afternoon for doing absolutely nothing structured.
Walk along Palisade and Central Avenues, explore some of the residential streets, stop in a local shop, or make your way toward Ogden Avenue.
Part of the appeal of the Heights is that you don’t need a destination every few minutes. Grab another coffee, take the long way back, or simply enjoy being outside while the weather is still perfect for it.
3:00 PM: Add a Workout, If You Feel Like It
If you want a little movement before dinner, the Heights has plenty of boutique fitness studios and neighborhood gyms.
Book a Pilates or reformer class, try a group fitness session, or fit in a quick workout before heading home to reset for the evening.
And if a workout doesn’t sound like your ideal Sunday? Skip it. Take another walk, head home for a few hours, or find somewhere cozy to sit with a book.
6:00 PM: Dinner at Corto
Finish the day at Corto on Palisade Avenue.
The intimate neighborhood restaurant is known for handmade pasta, seasonal dishes, and a warm atmosphere that feels particularly fitting once the temperature starts to drop.
And don’t forget: Corto is BYOB. Pick up your favorite bottle of wine before dinner and bring it along.
Good pasta, good wine, and a cozy neighborhood restaurant is a pretty perfect way to end a fall Sunday.
A Sunday Well Spent
Matcha or coffee, the farmers market, skyline views, pizza, a local shop, a neighborhood walk, maybe a workout, and handmade pasta with your own bottle of wine to finish the day.
Nothing overly planned. Nothing rushed.
Just a Sunday spent enjoying the places that make Jersey City Heights feel like home.
